“Back to the Future” iconic car is back with future-wise revision with a full-electric DeLorean. The Super Bowl LVI teaser for the DeLorean EV was launched to lure viewers to sign up for its introduction this year.
The DeLorean EV is being revived in Texas by the team behind the China-backed Karma Automotive which has developed hybrid and electric vehicles in California. They are working with Stephen Wayne who owns the DeLorean branding rights in the 90s and has tried for years to revive the brand or still produce it in low-volume.
The new company is called DeLorean Motors Reimagined LLC and its CEO is Joost de Vries who spent six years as the VP of sales at Karma. The new company’s chief marketing officer and vice president of engineering also come from Karma.
It will be setting up an engineering and main headquarter in San Antonio that could potentially bring 450 jobs for the city.
The gull-winged DeLorean EV might have the appeal for those fans of pop culture in the 80s but they should introduce new features that will entice the younger generation. It will be a tight squeeze to enter the EV markets right now which is currently dominated by Tesla which seemed to curve the future of the auto industry.
