Nismo, founded in 1984 after a merger of two motorsports departments, is short for Nissan Motorsport International Limited, the performance division of the Nissan Motor Company. Today Nismo competes in the Super GT and FIA GT Championship, further promoting the group’s vision to become one of the world’s leaders in sportscar racing.

As such, Nismo, in the past few years, have developed a lethal combination of superbly, capable cars and very talented athletes and drivers. Here, we highlight the best of the best the group has to offer.

In the company’s attempt to highlight its fastest Nismo in its production line today —-the 2014 370Z Nismo along with Nissan 2012 GT Academy Champion Peter Pyzera and BASE jumper Dave Barlia. Conquering the Swiss Alps’ Susten Pass, the team was able to ‘unleashed the performance’ of this iconic sportscar in the air and land battle of the Nismo and Wingsuit. Racing Cars

Nissan GT-R GT500 Spec

The Nissan GT-R GT500 Spec is an epitome of a car, taking automotive fundamentals and refining them into their utmost peak to develop one of the most powerful racing machines on the earth today. The latest incarnation of this wonderful vehicle packs a further optimized engine response and torque to combine for greater competitive power and fuel economy. Armed with a special shark tooth rear wing and fender design, the Nissan GT-R GT500 Spec is truly one racing beast, scoring consecutive titles in 2011 and 2012.

Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3

Making history, Nissan developed the world’s first Japanese FIA GT3 spec vehicle with the Nissan GT-R Nismo GT3. After already gaining a victory since its 2012 debut, the 2013 model packs canard-style wings on its front bumper alongside an optimized front fender and rear wing spoiler. Overall, the configuration delivers an improved aerodynamic performance, while its engine also delivers better output and durability than the previous model.

Altima V8SC

Participating in the V8 Supercars Championship is Nissan’s entrant, the Altima V8SC. Together with manufacturers Ford, Holden and Mercedes, the Altima V8SC will be competing this season using its VK56DE engine developed by Nismo, the same one used on the Nissan GT-R that won the 2011 FIA GT1 Series Championship.

Leaf Nismo RC

Offering an alternative to traditional motorsport racing, the Leaf Nismo RC is dubbed to be the world’s zero emission, 100% electric racing car. Premiering and attracting worldwide attention at its unveiling in the 2011 New York Auto Show, the Leaf Nismo RC packs a motor and power conversion unit mid-ship and is equipped with a heavy duty lithium ion battery. It uses a double wishbone suspension configuration and an MR drive system, all powering its lightweight body of only 925kgs. Everything else on this baby are the same technical specifications found on the stock Nissan Leaf.

Teams and Drivers

Nismo GT500 class

Leading the Nismo GT team is Team Principal Yutaka Suzuki. Together with Masakataka Yanagida and Ronnie Quintarelli, the trio fills in the shoes of ace driver Satoshi Motoyama after 13 long years racing for the team.

MOLA GT500 class

Since stepping up to the GT500 class two years ago, Mola has won consecutive titles, making history as the first and only Super GT team to accomplish such feat. Satoshi Motoyama, former Nismo GT500 racer, leads this team, together with Yuhi Sekiguchi from the GT300 class.

Team Impul GT500 class

Team Impul, led by the original fastest man in Japan Kazuyoshi Hoshino, will be battling through its competition via the duo of Tsugio Matsuda and João Paulo de Oliveira. The team is the only NISSAN GT-R team to use Bridgestone tires.

Kondo Racing GT500 class

Entering its eighth year in Super GT, Kondo Racing is led by part-time actor and racer Masahiko Kondo. Using only Yokohama tires since 2006, this year’s team is comprised of Hironobu Yasuda and world champion racer Michael Krumm.
