The British Grand Prix 2012

Round 9 of the 2012 Formula One world championship takes us to Silverstone, the home of the British Grand Prix and a venue which hosted the first ever round of the championship back in 1950.

Ferrari driver Fernando Alonso heads into the race with a relatively comfortable 20 point lead over 2nd place man Lewis Hamilton having become the first double winner of the season last time out in Valencia.

Alonso may have won this race 12 months ago, but Sebastian Vettel proved that Red Bull has regained its mojo in Valencia; dominating the whole weekend up until his reliability problem half way through the race. He stands a good chance of taking his 2nd British GP triumph this weekend.

Lewis Hamilton is also heading into the event in upbeat mood, confident that his McLaren will perform well at the high speed Silverstone circuit. He has history on his side, with British drivers being the most successful nation at the event according to a British GP infographic which has been released by MoneySupermarket.com. In-fact, British drivers have more than four times as many victories at the event as their closest rivals the Germans:
