Before making its public debut at the 2012 Geneva Motor Show, Opel has released some new images and details about the most powerful Astra ever, the new 2012 Astra OPC.

The new Opel Astra OPC is the high performance version of the Astra GTC. With its 2.0L direct injection turbo gasoline engine that makes 280 hp and 295 lb-ft of torque; it can reach a top speed of 155 mph, a speed no Astra has ever than before.

Design wise, the new Astra OPC comes sportier with a set of specially fashioned front and rear bumpers, side skirts, an aerodynamic roof spoiler and two exhaust tail pipes in a trapeze shape.

The Astra OPC also uses the same high tech front-wheel suspension system used in the Astra GTC, the HiperStrut (High Performance Strut). Along with this is the fully-adaptive FlexRide chassis control system which allows the driver to sharpen the characteristic shock absorber line, the steering and the gas pedal responsiveness.

For better handling and stability, the new Astra OPC is fitted with a limited slip differential on the front axle which provides superior grip when exiting bends at high speeds even in wet conditions. This is coupled with the high performance Brembo brake system which ensures good deceleration stats and maximum stability, even in moments of intense pressure.

Inside, Astra OPC features performance seats, a flat OPC sports leather steering wheel and special instruments. The seats in the Astra OPC feature an organic injection molded sheet in the performance seat shell, resulting in a weight saving of 45 percent compared to a conventional shell. The sheet is then filled with a composite material of polyamide and fiber glass which are both agile and strong.
