Hyundai confirmed that they will be producing a turbocharged version of their 2012 Hyundai Veloster that debuted earlier this year at the 2011 Detroit Auto Show.

Hyundai provides no information yet about the engine but reports suggest that the Veloster will be fitted with Hyundai’s new 1.6L T-GDI turbocharged 4-cylinder engine. This engine is capable of producing 208 hp at 6,000 rpm and a peak torque of 195 lb-ft from 1,600 rpm to 5,000 rpm.

Recap: The 2012 Hyundai Veloster gets its power from an all-new 1.6L GDI Gamma direct-injection gasoline engine producing 138-hp and 123 lb-ft of torque. The power is managed by either a proprietary Hyundai six-speed manual transmission or Hyundai’s first dual-clutch transmission. This three door-coupe features Hyundai Blue Link® and an outstanding fuel economy of 40 mpg.
