Top Ten Sportscars of 2011

Posted on 18 April 2011 by Tony Santos

2011 has seen its fair share of ups and downs in the auto industry. But there’s nothing like rounding up the best of the best to make us all feel better. This top ten is dedicated solely to the sweetest and fastest set of wheels out on the market this year, the sports car. To take out any subjectivity in this top ten, we’re going to strictly rate the top ten sports cars by speed. After all, that’s how you measure the rate of a good sports car right?

10. Porsche Carrera GT

This little rocket, and Porsche’s most expensive car, can go from 0-60 in 3.9 seconds and reach a top speed of 205mph. With a hefty price tag of $440,000, you’re spending for the speed, not for the legroom.

9. Lamborghini Murcielago LP640

This manly make of a car follows in the tradition of Lamborghini and runs 0-60 in 3.3 seconds with a maximum speed of 211mph. The Murcielago is not only faster than the Carrera GT, it’s also $10,000 cheaper at a base price of $430,000. With that extra $10,000, you could buy gas to last a week.

8. Pagani Zonda F

This batmobile looking convertible has a V12 Mercedes Benz M180 engine and can do 0-60 in 3.5 seconds and reach a top speed of 215mph, which is a bit disappointing given the amount of power under the trunk. Not to mention its $667,321 price tag.

7. Jaguar XJ220

Out of all the cars on the top ten list, this Jag has got to have the most boring design. It doesn’t scream sport. And yet its sits at number 7 reaching 0-60 in 3.8 seconds and a max speed of 217mph. It’s worth $650,000.

6. Ferrari Enzo

This rare breed runs at a top speed of 217mph and goes from 0-60 in 3.4 seconds. Its quick acceleration is respectable and only 399 were ever made.

5. McLaren F1

The McLaren F1 Used to be the fastest production car on the market…but that was a long time ago. But it still at the top five with its stunning 3.2 seconds from 0-60 acceleration and top speed of 240mph.

4. Koenigsegg CCX

This amazing car is aspiring to be the fastest car in the world, but it has a long way to go. It’s interesting to note that this car, along with the 3 other fastest cars on the list, run on V8s. The CCX runs up to 245mph with its V8 engine.

3. Saleen S7 Twin-Turbo

The Saleen is smooth, silky and sexy true to its name. This sexy twin-turbo runs at second runner up with a top speed of 248mph and an acceleration of 3.2 seconds from 0-60.

2.SSC Ultimate Aero

This car held the title as the fastest car in the world for three years reaching a top speed of 257mph and acceleration of 0-60 in a mind blowing 2.7 seconds. But it doesn’t even come close to the fastest car in the world today…

1. Bugatti Veyron

Oh yes, the same car that Conan O’brien used to taunt NBC and the same car that Tom Cruise couldn’t figure out how to get into. Imagine, it runs on a W16 engine with 1200 horsepower. This is definitely the fastest car out there reaching an insane speed of 267mph with an acceleration of 0-60 in 2.5 seconds. It also happens to be the most expensive car in the world at a base price of $1,700,000.
