Recently at the 2011 Geneva Motor Show, Kia has introduced the hatchback version of its fourth-generation Rio. Following that, is the debut of the new sedan version of the 2012 Kia Rio at the 2011 New York Auto Show.

The third-generation Rio has been a hit since its launch in 2005, where its sales reaches a total of 860,000 units. That was tough to beat, that’s why Kia’s engineers and designers have created the fourth-generation Rio with the appeal that will capture consumer’s aesthetic tastes.

The 2012 Kia Rio comes longer by 20 mm, wider by 25 mm, lower by 15 mm and wheelbase extended by 70 mm improving passenger space and cargo capacity. This B-segment car comes with a choice of 5-door and 3-door body styles, the 5-door version will go on sale in the UK from September while the 3-door model will go on sale from early 2012. Both versions will be manufactured exclusively at Kia’s Sohari plant in Korea.

In UK, 2012 Rio will be available in a choice of four highly efficient 3 and 4 cylinder engines with a 69 to 107.5 hp power range. Furthermore these models will come with a CO2 emission of 85 g/km and fuel consumption of 88.3 mpg.

A diesel model is also available and will come with two versions of Kia’s ‘U2′ power unit, both fitted with 16-valves and a Waste Gate Turbo. The 1.4L makes 88.7 hp and 216 Nm of torque at 1,750 rpm, while the 1.1L makes 69 hp and 162 Nm at also 1,750 rpm.

Lastly the 2012 Rio comes also with a petrol version where you can select from a 1.4-litre Gamma or 1.25-litre Kappa engine. The Gamma engine is capable of producing 1.07.5 hp and 136 Nm of torque allowing 2012 Rio to reach 62 mph in 11.5 seconds with a top speed of 112 mph. While the Kappa engine delivers 83.8 hp and 117.8 Nm of torque while achieving fuel economy of 58.8 mpg.
