So who’s your favorite EV? Nissan LEAF or Chevrolet Volt? When they are first launched in December, Chevrolet Volt end up selling 350 units leaving Nissan LEAF with only 250 units.

Their battles continues, and as of March 2011, a total of 1,536 units of Chevrolet Volt have been sold outselling its competitor, the Nissan LEAF which has sold only 452 units.

2011 Chevrolet Volt:

  • The 2011 Chevrolet Volt is a four-seat, four-door “series-parallel plug-in hybrid” hatchback powered by a T-shaped lithium-ion battery pack that can power the car up to 40 miles without the use of gasoline. It can reach a speed of 149 hp with maximum torque of 273 lb-ft, Volt can go from 0-60 mph for about 9 seconds. It takes 4 hours to recharge the battery from a 240 volts outlet and 10-12 hours on 120 volts outlet. Volt is also powered by an 84-hp 1.4 4 cylinder engine which primarily supplies electricity to the motor for as many as 300 additional miles. Volt is estimated to run 60 miles per gallon in combined gasoline and electric powered driving. Prices  start at $41,000 but can be down to a total of $33,500 with the use of a full federal income tax credit which range from $0 to $7,500.

  • The 2011 Nissan LEAF is powered by a 107-hp electric-motor fueled by lithium-ion cells. It can travel a range of 100 miles on a full charge with a top speed of 87 mph. It takes 8 hours to fully charge the battery from a 200 V outlet but buyers can opt for a DC 50kW quick-charger that can recharge the battery up to 80% in under 30 minutes. Prices for the 2011 Nissan LEAF start at $32,780 but with a federal tax-credit prices will come in as low as $25,280, or for a lease payment of $349 a month.
